This course will cover many of the fundamental principles relating physical oceanographic processes to the biology of the ocean on a variety of spatial and temporal scales. The course will be conducted using class lectures and assigned readings from a text book (Mann, K. H. and J. R. N. Lazier, 1996 Dynamics of Marine Ecosystems: Biological-Physical Interactions in the Oceans. (2nd Edition), Blackwell Science, 394 pp.) and a short reading list from various oceanographic journals.
