Abstract:

This course covers fundamental physical oceanographic processes important to coastal and open ocean environments. It is an important "building block" course in that many of the processes dicussed in the course are expanded upon in other more advanced courses. The course uses class lectures, homework problems, and two text books along with a short reading list from various oceanographic journals. The course includes pertinent lectures given by current workers involved in ongoing research on specialized topics, such as satellite oceanography and numerical modeling.
