This course will cover physical oceanographic processes important to European and U.S. shallow seas, continental shelves and banks and their relationship to nutrients and biology (plankton and fish) in these regions. The course will be conducted using an extensive reading list, including various chapters from "Georges Bank", (R. H. Backus & D. W. Bourne, Eds. MIT Press, Cambridge, MA, 1987, 593 pp.) Included in the course will be 2-3 pertinent guest lectures given by current workers involved in ongoing research.
